Jorginho and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored goals for Chelsea in the second half to defeat AC Milan 2-0 at the San Siro following Fikayo Tomori’s dismissal.
Midway through the first half, the referee pointed to the spot and dismissed the England player after ruling that the former Blues defender had dragged Mason Mount back within the penalty box.
Tomori took a long time to leave the field, and Milan were indignant.
However, Graham Potter’s team deserves a lot of praise for their expert work on the Italian side.
When Jorginho successfully converted from the penalty spot and Aubameyang completed a lovely play with Mount once more in the spotlight, Chelsea was well on their way to a respectable victory.
With back-to-back victories over Milan and a group-leading position in Group E, the team earns its first Champions League victory away from home against Italian opponents in 19 years.
To advance to the knockout rounds, a win versus Red Bull Salzburg the following time out would be sufficient.
However, James Reece’s injury meant that the Blues’ victory required a price to be paid.
