In their opening match of Group B at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Nigeria’s Flamingos were defeated 2-1 by Germany.
Miracle Usani’s goal in the 30th minute gave the Flamingos the lead going into the break.
Svea Stold of Germany equalized in the 50th minute, and Mara Alber scored the second goal for the Europeans in the 61st.
On Friday, October 14, the Flamingos will take on New Zealand in their second group match in an effort to bounce back from their loss to Germany.
In the other matchup in Group B, Chile defeated New Zealand 3-1.
In Group A, the hosts, India, were destroyed 8-0 by the United States of America, and the other African team, Morocco, was defeated 1-0 by Brazil.
After hosting the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup for men, this is India’s second FIFA competition.
Additionally, this is the first FIFA women’s football competition that India has hosted.
